Giordana director retires after 39 years

16/02/2017
Cycling apparel manufacturer Gita Sporting Goods has announced the retirement of its director of marketing, Sandy Nicholls, after almost 40 years with the company that makes the Giordana brand of clothing.

Mr Nicholls was the first employee that founder, Giorgio Andretta, recruited after deciding in 1978 that Gita could no longer be a one-man operation. He was influential in Gita’s introduction to the US market of a number of Italian cycling brands and then, when Gita created its own brand, of Giordana.

“His impact on the growth and direction of Gita has been significant since day one,” Mr Andretta said of his long-time colleague. “It has not only been a working relationship but a close personal one as well.”

The founder’s daughter, Giordana Andretta Walker (after whom the apparel brand was named) will assume Sandy Nicholls’s daily responsibilities.
