Cocona law suit against two outdoor brands is ongoing

Specialist activated carbon performance textiles technology provider Cocona has announced that a lawsuit it has filed against two outdoor brands is ongoing and that a request to have the case heard outside Colorado, Cocona’s home state, has been refused.

Cocona filed the law suit in November 2016 against Columbia Sportswear and The North Face, alleging that these brands breached its intellectual property. It said the two outdoor brands sold products “enhanced with active particles in violation of Cocona’s patent rights”. It insisted it is “aggressively pursuing litigation against both companies”, and will pursue infringement cases against any other companies that “violate the laws that protect Cocona's intellectual property in the future”.

Chief executive, Jeff Bowman, said Cocona wants to create “mutually beneficial” relationships with partners interested in using its technology. But he added: “When a company is using our patented technology without permission, Cocona has no choice but to take the matter to a court of law. As a technology company with dozens of issued patents, we must fiercely defend our intellectual property against companies that seek to exploit Cocona’s patented technologies without permission.”
