Trade union representatives, government officials and garment and footwear workers in Cambodia have agreed an increase in the minimum monthly wage manufacturers will have to pay from the start of 2018.

An increase of 11% on this year’s level will take the minimum salary in 2018 to the equivalent of $170 per month. In 2012, the minimum monthly wage was $61, which means an increase in the last six years of 180%.

The garment and footwear industry in Cambodia employs around 700,000 workers and generates an estimated $7 billion per year for the country’s economy.
