New research centre will support China’s textile industry

05/01/2018
Shanghai-based Donghua University has officially opened a new textile research centre designed to support the international development of China’s textile and apparel industry.

The facility will play a part in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, a project that seeks to build stronger links with trading partners along the Silk Road. The project involve major improvements in the land and sea infrastructure across corridors connecting China, Europe and Africa.

The research centre, which was unveiled at the end of December, is a joint project between Donghua University, the China Textile and Apparel Education Society and the China Textile Planning Research Association.

It will carry out studies into the textile industries of other Belt and Road countries. This will include areas like language, history, market conditions, trade policies and technologies. The findings will help guide the Chinese government’s decisions and strategies and support Chinese businesses seeking to enter these markets.
