Vietnamese textile industry sets export target

08/01/2018
The Vietnamese textile and garment industry is targeting exports of $34 billion in 2018, according to the general director of the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex), Le Tien Truong.

This figure would represent an increase of 10% compared to 2017, when the industry brought in export earnings of $31 billion, slightly exceeding the target set at the start of the year.

Speaking in Hanoi at the start of January, Mr Truong said Vietnam would face more competition in 2018 as other countries seek to increase their share of the global garment and textile market.

In order to achieve the target of 10% growth in 2018, he said the garment and textile industry must focus on finding ways to increase productivity. Investment should be made in technology that allows the industry to develop in a stable, sustainable and efficient way, he added.
