Higg Index to boost Vietnamese textile industry
02/07/2018
The Higg Index was developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) and allows companies to measure their environmental and social performance. It is used by more than 8,000 manufacturers and brands across the world.
According to a survey of more than 200 Vietnamese businesses carried out by VITAS, nearly 70% of companies in the country are familiar with the Higg Index, but only 20% have used it. A number of them cited the cost as the main barrier to them adopting it.
SAC CEO Jason Kibbey recently travelled to Vietnam to speak with local textile companies and to explain the benefits of using the Higg Index. Among the things he mentioned was that the tool is considered a necessary benchmark for companies selling products to the US and to countries in the European Union.
