Coolcore makes single-yarn breakthrough

07/02/2018
Developer of chemical-free thermoregulating fabrics Coolcore has introduced a new product called Fibr-X, an extruded single yarn that possesses, the company says, the same thermoregulating performance as its original multi-fibre technology.

Vice-president for marketing, David Ludd, said on making the announcement that the single-yarn innovation will give manufacturing partners “more flexibility than ever before” to create fabrics, garments and accessories with the same benefits as Coolcore. Founder and chief technology officer, Dennis Ackroyd, also pointed out that basing Fibr-X on a single extruded fibre will also reduce manufacturing time and materials.

Fibr-X features proprietary cross-section designs that wick moisture through an evaporative process that requires no chemical additives or treatments. It can be woven with other natural or synthetic fibres to create fabrics with additional performance characteristics or used alone.

In 2013, Coolcore became the first US company to receive an ‘innovative technology’ award from Germany based textile research and testing body the Hohenstein Institute; it remains the only company globally to receive this award for cooling technology.
