Boardriders to celebrate the life of Pierre Agnes

02/03/2018
Sports clothing, footwear and equipment group Boardriders has announced it will hold a number of memorial events to celebrate the life of former chief executive, Pierre Agnes, who went missing while sailing off the coast of France at the end of January.

Search and rescue efforts were unsuccessful and Mr Agnes was declared “lost at sea” a few days later.

In a statement, Boardriders said: “The company will honour Pierre’s memory by hosting traditional paddle-out ceremonies around the world for our beloved friend and surfing visionary. During this cherished surfing ritual, surfers paddle out into the ocean, straddle their boards and link hands to create a floating circle of solidarity. This is the way that surfers honour and celebrate their heroes, friends and family who share a love of the ocean.”

A paddle-out ceremony will take place in Queensland, Australia on March near to the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast event at Snapper Rocks. A similar event will also be held in Huntington Beach, US on March 16. A paddle-out in France will be scheduled later this spring.
