Pentland acquires cycling brand Endura
Cycling apparel brand Endura, clothing partner to the Movistar cycling team, has been acquired by Pentland, the group that already owns sports brands including Speedo, Mitre, Canterbury and Berghaus.

Endura will continue to be based in Livingston, Scotland, and its founders and directors, Jim McFarlane and Pamela Barclay, will continue to lead and manage the business. The company has said investment from Pentland will support its ambition to expand distribution and reach more consumers.

The acquisition is part of a wider brand portfolio development programme, in which Pentland is looking for “high potential, high-growth brands” that it can invest in over the long term.

At the time of the announcement, Jim McFarlane said: “Endura has been my life for 25 years, so I’m understandably protective of it and have dismissed numerous other approaches in the past. Pentland stands out as an exceptional home for Endura, placing it within a family of world-class brands under the umbrella of a family-owned company that is long-term in its outlook and aligned with our culture and values.”

He said Endura will continue to manufacture product in Scotland and that the agreement could lead to product being made there for other Pentland brands too. Mr McFarlane described this prospect as “hugely exciting”.
