Matt Priest hails Flyknit ‘revolution’
Chief executive of the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA), Matt Priest, has described the Flyknit knitted-upper shoes that Nike launched at the London Olympics in 2012 as “a gamechanger” and as an idea that has “set off a revolution in our industry”.

Mr Priest was speaking in Portugal at the 2018 UITIC Congress on May 17.

He said: “Imports of knitted footwear into the US are up significantly and, as amazing as traditional craftsmanship is, leather shoes have not seen that growth. Will our love of knitted footwear last? I don’t know, but it’s clear that this idea allows manufacturers to take out labour, handling time and touches and to produce shoes without as many components.”
