Lubrizol develops new TPU footwear solutions

Specialty chemicals company Lubrizol has unveiled two new thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) solutions designed for the athletic footwear market.

The products in question, Estane TRX TPU and BounCell-X, have been developed as alternatives to existing materials for use in cushion, outsole and assembly processes. 

Estane TRX TPU is created via thermoplastic injection moulding and is designed for use in outsoles. It is said to produce outsoles that have good wear and slip resistance. It is also highly lightweight. 

BounCell-X is a plasticiser-free thermoplastic foam designed for use in midsoles. It is said to offer resilient cushion and rebound properties. It is created using a physical foam injection moulding technology that employs nitrogen gas to generate a durable foam for use in the base of a shoe.
