Partners will bring temperature regulation system to shoes

Fabric, finish and composite manufacturer Cosmo has announced an exclusive partnership deal that will bring to footwear what it claims is “one of the most exciting temperature-regulation systems on the market”.

Over the last 12 months, Hong Kong-based Cosmo has been working with Kulkote, a water-based chemical company, to bring to shoes technology that has, for years, been helping to regulate people’s temperature during sleep through the use of phase change materials (PCMs) in bedding.

Under the agreement, Cosmo will take the Kulkote PCM compound of microcapsules with an exterior shell and a wax-like core and print it on the back of the lining material in shoes. “It can go on a wide array of different linings, so the item has applications in all types of footwear, including work boots, footwear for use in hiking, hunting, athletics and casual wear,” Cosmo has said.

Major outdoor and athletic footwear brands already using materials from Cosmo include adidas, Columbia, Nike, Decathlon, Ecco, New Balance, Helly Hansen, Puma, Hi-Tec, Sperry, Merrell and Red Wing.
