Allbirds to open first UK store
05/10/2018
The store will be based in the Covent Garden area of London. It will carry the brand’s range of trainers and casual shoes, which are made from sustainable materials like wool, Lenzing’s plant-based Tencel fibre, and an EVA resin derived from sugarcane.
It will be Allbirds’ third physical retail location, joining those it already has in New York and San Francisco.
Making this announcement, the brand said: “Because we develop products that are tactile in nature, it’s important to give customers a space to interact with our shoes. After witnessing the reaction to that first try-on moment, we understand the value in getting our products into the hands of curious shoppers so they can experience the comfort and design for themselves. This isn’t necessarily true for every company or industry, but we believe it is important for us.”
Actor, philanthropist and environmentalist Mr DiCaprio confirmed that he had invested in Allbirds in a social media post in August. At the time, he described Allbirds as a company “dedicated to creating a more sustainable future by developing new materials and serving as a model for the footwear industry”.
