Used gear an important part of REI’s business

16/10/2018
Outdoor retail co-operative and product manufacturer REI has announced it will host swap events across the US on October 27, during which its members will be able to bring their gently used items to swap with other members.

These ‘used gear swaps’ will be held at 11 of its stores. It follows on from a similar imitative in 2017, when they took place in six locations.

“Our commitment to used gear is part of our broader effort to offer affordable, sustainable gear to our customers,” said Peter Whitcomb, REI director of new business development. “Swapping gear is a fun way for our members to connect, get the gear they need, and sell or trade what they no longer use – all while helping to keep products out of the landfill.”

The events are free to attend and REI members are allowed to bring one guest. Proceeds from the individual events will be donated to a local outdoor non-profit organisations in each city.

Full details of which stores will host the gear swaps can be found on the REI website
