New ICA president takes over

More than 600 delegates from the global cotton community attended the 2018 International Cotton Association’s (ICA) annual trade event and gala dinner in Hong Kong in mid-October.

There were keynote sessions from Joe Nicosia (Louis Dreyfus Company), Bruce Atherley (Cotton Council International) and Gao Fang (China Cotton Association), as well as a sustainability panel session, chaired by Bill Ballenden (Dragontree).

At the closing gala dinner, Salman Ispahani, a spinner from Bangladesh, handed over the ICA presidency to Bill Ballenden. Mr Salman reflected on the challenges of being a spinner and serving as ICA president. He said: “Being a spinner leading an association always regarded as the domain of the merchants and shippers was a very daunting prospect, one I hope I have been able to navigate successfully.

Next year’s event will take place in Liverpool on October 10 and 11.
