Change of role for Covestro head of textile coatings

19/12/2018
Head of textile coatings at polymer manufacturer Covestro, Nick Smith, is moving to a new job within the group. Mr Smith has run the textile coatings business since Covestro was spun off from Bayer MaterialScience in 2015.

He is moving to a new role in Covestro’s strategy and portfolio development group.

Announcing the change, he said: “I am sad to say goodbye to my wonderful team and to the textiles industry, whose players have so impressed and inspired me with their passion and the way they have demonstrated willingness and capability to work together in industry-wide, multi-stakeholder coalitions on the big topics that they collectively face, most prominently, sustainability.”

He added that, if he had to pick the achievement he is proudest of, it would be how Covestro was able to bring to life “the truly innovative” Insqin brand. He said this showed that waterborne polyurethane-based textile coating technology is “a game-changer for the sustainability of PU coated fabrics”.

Torsten Pohl has taken over responsibility for textile coatings at the group.
