It intends to set up a a production line at its stand at ISPO consisting of a plastic shredder, extruder and 3D printer to demonstrate the recycling value of plastic waste. “In the near future,” Sympatex said in the build-up to the exhibition, “it will be possible to create a waterproof shoe from recycled materials using a modular design concept, and then broken down into the individual raw materials again with little effort.”
A portion of the waste collected during a plogging event that Sympatex will organise at ISPO will be brought to the booth, shredded onsite and extruded to a filament, which will then be fed into the 3D printer.
In the next step, the printer will produce an outer shoe material that, together with Sympatex’s Utmospheric seamless and waterproof footwear lining technology, will for the basic elements of a waterproof shoe, to which a Vibram sole will be added.
