Orolay stops selling at home following Amazon success

Orolay, a down jacket brand based in Jiaxing in China, has said its sales for January 2019 equalled the figure for the whole year in 2017.

Its jackets use down from duck farms in Hebei and Anhui and have proved popular with consumers in the US since Orolay began to sell on Amazon.

Compared to almost $600 for a down jacket from North American brands, Orolay’s start at less than $100. The brand says that the quality of the materials it uses have helped it build up a good reputation among North American consumers.

It describes its jackets as super-warm and super-lightweight, but with the capacity to keep wearers “extraordinarily warm” thanks to the large-size, good-quality down fibres it is able to source from Chinese duck farms.

Founder, Kevin Chiu, recently told Reuters that 70% of the brand’s sales now are through Amazon. He said Orolay has stopped selling in China and is concentrating on developing market share in Europe, Japan and, especially, North America.
