Nike signs up Japanese tennis star

She first reached the top of the world rankings in January after a breakthrough 2018 in which she won her first Grand Slam tournament at the US Open in September. She followed this up with a second major title at the Australian Open at the start of this year.
Ms Osaka is the first Japanese-born player to be ranked number one. Her mother is Japanese and her father is from Haiti.
Announcing the signing of Ms Osaka, Amy Montage, Nike’s general manager of global categories, said: “As we continue to inspire millions of athletes to chase their crazy dreams, Naomi is an incredible talent to add to our roster and help drive our commitment to inspiring a new generation of female athletes.”
The first official competition in which she will wear Nike kit will get underway in Stuttgart, Germany on April 22.
