Consortium will fund up to 40 smart textile projects
30/05/2019
With co-funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme, a consortium of industry bodies from Belgium, France, Sweden, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Germany will establish a portfolio of up to 40 “trailblazer” smart textiles projects.
Innovation projects supported through the SmartX Accelerator programme will focus on filling what the project co-ordinator, the European Textile Technology Platform (ETP), has called “the gap that currently exists between an abundance of promising design prototypes and a growing end market interest in smart textiles and wearables”.
Bringing products to market quickly and at reasonable price requires a value chain of manufacturers of textiles and microelectronics, integrators and assemblers, data processing and Industry 4.0 experts, manufacturing technology providers, distributors, funding providers and end users, ETP said.
Funded projects will tackle three high-potential end markets in particular. These will include sports apparel.
The consortium expects to issue its first call for projects in November, with two further calls in 2020.
