Berkeley video wins grant from Unifi

Unifi, the manufacturer of Repreve recycled polyester fibre, has awarded a $10,000 grant to the University of California, Berkeley, for its efforts to boost sustainability on campus.

The university won the grant after submitting a video as part of the Pac-12 Zero Waste Challenge, a joint initiative of the 12 universities in the western part of the US that make up the Pac-12 athletic conference. Repreve is a founding sustainability partner of Pac-12 Team Green, which promotes sustainability and circular economy efforts across all 12 member universities. 

Unifi vice-president Richard Gerstein said the winning video stood out because of the “tremendous efforts” of students and staff to raise awareness of the importance of the circular economy during a basketball game.
