UK brand buoyed by Murray support

UK-based sportswear brand Castore has said it expects its sales to increase to more than £14 million in 2019, more than treble the £4.5 million it achieved last year. At present, around 45% of its revenue comes from overseas, with the majority of that through online channels.

The company, which was founded in 2016 by brothers Tom and Phil Beahon, secured a major coup at the start of this year when it partnered with tennis player Andy Murray. Shortly afterwards, it looked as if the Scottish star might have to retire due to injury, but he has since returned to the court and is currently taking part in the Wimbledon tennis championship, one of the sport’s four ‘Major’ events.

As a result of his backing, which as well as wearing Castore kit has also seen him take an equity stake in the business, the brand expects tennis to become its second largest category, only behind its core training range. Mr Murray has been heavily involved in a tennis apparel range that Castore recently released.

Tom Beahon has told UK business media that the partnership has increased global awareness of the brand and has prompted enquiries from potential investors. Castore’s goal now is to raise a further £10 million in funding, from either private or institutional investors, to help it grow its presence in the US.
