China confirms increase on tariffs on US cotton imports

09/09/2019
International cotton prices declined further in August, prompted by a further deterioration of the trade relationship between China and the US.

Following the imposition of tariffs on a new list of Chinese exports to the US on September 1, China’s Ministry of Commerce announced retaliatory tariff increases on two tranches of imports from the US, the first with effect from the start of September and the second from December 15.

As part of that second tranche, there will be additional tariffs on raw cotton. From December 15, tariffs on imports into China of US raw cotton will go up from 25% to 30%.
