California flagship store is Goldwin’s first outside Japan

Japanese technical outdoor apparel brand Goldwin has established a flagship retail store in San Francisco, California — the company’s first outside of Japan. Doors open to consumers in mid-November.

Goldwin, which rose to prominence after Japanese gold medalists were seen wearing the brand in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, makes technical apparel for skiing, hiking, running, and mountaineering as well as a line of compression gear. Last November, Goldwin opened its first flagship store in Tokyo. The brand’s aim to merge outdoor technology and urban styles makes California a natural fit for the company’s aesthetic.

“Most American outdoor enthusiasts are just learning about Goldwin,” said Goldwin’s general manager Gen Arai. “So, with the new store location, we are looking to provide a unique retail experience that connects urban city life with nature and adventure.”
