Mark Parker to step down as Nike chief

Sports brand Nike has confirmed that chief executive, Mark Parker, will step down from the role in January. He has been chief executive of the company since 2006, adding the roles of chairman and president in 2016. He will become executive chairman and continue to lead the board of directors.

Former eBay chief executive, Joe Donahoe, will become Mr Parker’s replacement at Nike. He has served on the sports company’s board since 2014. Since leaving eBay in 2015, Mr Donahoe has been chief executive of cloud computing company ServiceNow. He is also the chairman of online payments technology provider PayPal.

At the of the announcement, Mark Parker said his successor’s expertise in digital commerce and technology helped make him “ideally suited” to accelerate Nike’s “digital transformation”.

Mr Donahoe will become chief executive of Nike on January 13.
