High-performance fibre developer Teijin has said outdoor brand Descente will put what it calls the world’s first fan-cooled jacket, which it developed jointly with partner company Makita, into its sports apparel collection.

The development involves a two-layer pressure-controlled cooling structure that allows air to enter through the jacket’s outer shell and inner lining, both in the front and at the back. This design prevents the fabric from bundling up inside, ensuring that the wearer can work unencumbered, Teijin has said.

Air is discharged on a pressure-regulated basis through openings, mainly in the neck, underarms and chest, where blood circulation is particularly active, for enhanced cooling effect.
