Adidas calls time on Speedfactories and will move the technology to Asia
Sportswear brand Adidas will end production at its Speedfactory facilities in Ansbach, Germany, and Atlanta, US, by April 2020 at the latest. Instead it will concentrate its use of the Speedfactory technologies at factories run by two of its suppliers in Asia.

Adidas global operations responsible, Martin Shankland, said: “The Speedfactories have been instrumental in furthering our manufacturing innovation and capabilities. Through shortened development and production lead time, we’ve provided select customers with hyper-relevant product for moments that matter.”

Adidas’ reasons for the production shift include improving existing production capacity and more flexibility in product design, as well as concentrating its resources and capacities on modernising its other suppliers instead.

It will, however, continue its collaboration with Speedfactories operator Oechsler, in manufacturing areas such as 4D-printed soles.

“The knowledge we gained from setting up and operating the Speedfactories was made possible through constructive cooperation with Oechsler and the team there”, added Mr Shankland. “We very much regret that our collaboration in Ansbach and Atlanta has come to an end and thank all project participants for their commitment. At the same time, we are pleased to continue our partnership with Oechsler in other areas.”
