Leftovers turned into limited-edition moccasins
Following the launch earlier this year of its new Leftover range, Swedish outdoor brand Haglöfs has released moccasins made from material that would have otherwise been discarded or recycled.

Created in a limited-edition run for FW19, the Leftover range uses the material trimmings of pieces cut for Haglöfs garments.

“[The trimmings] come in all kinds of colours, so for the Leftover concept, it felt as if the smartest thing to do was to use this to our advantage,” Sofia Jönsson, head of innovation at Haglöfs. “As a result, these moccasins are made with a brightly-coloured, unique patchwork pattern.”

The moccasins are constructed from Pertex Quantum polyamide fabric with blown-in synthetic Essens Mimic insulation. The 30D Pertex shell is recycled, treated with a fluorocarbon-free DWR for extra protection. The insulation is one commonly found in Haglöfs down jackets, designed to mimic the warming properties of down, while better withstanding exposure to moisture.

The Haglöfs' Leftover concept launched in Spring 2019, with the intention of reducing production waste in a way that would be useful to outdoors’ enthusiasts. The range debuted with a sleeping bag, which had a striped pattern reflecting that it had been made from offcuts of various materials rescued from production lines.
