Haglöfs sets aggressive sustainability targets

23/01/2014
Swedish outdoor brand Haglöfs has set “aggressive” sustainability goals that include making half its clothing from recycled products by 2015.

It has also committed to making 80% of all clothing and 50% of hardware from bluesign-approved materials by that date as well as making 40% of footwear products from recycled materials.

About 60% of the company’s products have been marked with Haglofs’ ’Take Care’ symbol for autumn/winter 2014. In order for a product to carry the symbol, it must be bluesign approved, made with 50% or more recycled content or made from organic cotton.

Haglofs joined Fair Wear Foundation (FWF), an initiative dedicated to improving the conditions of workers in the clothing industry, more than a year ago. During 2013, FWF verified 79% of its production; the target of 90% is “in reach”.

As a direct result of its work with FWF, Haglofs has decided to eliminate production in countries that cannot guarantee reasonable working conditions.

Sales for 2012 amounted to SEK 690 million ($107 million) and the company has achieved annual growth of 9% over the past five years.
