Sports brands among those joining US voting initiative

28/02/2020
Hundreds of CEOs and business owners, representing more than 2 million people, have signed on to Time to Vote, thereby committing to making accommodations for workers that help enable them to vote in the 2020 US election.

Sports and outdoor brands are among approximately 400 companies that have already signed on, including VF Corporation, Patagonia, Timberland, DICK’s Sporting Goods, The North Face, REI, Blue Ridge Mountain Outfitters and more.

The non-partisan initiative’s goal is to increase voter participation in the Nov. 3, 2020 general election. By signing on, CEOS and business owners agree to take steps such as supporting their employees’ ability to make sure they are registered to vote and have time to study their ballots. This also might include providing paid time off on election day, keeping that day free of meetings, or providing resources for mail-in ballots and early voting.

The Time to Vote movement began ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, when 411 companies representing all 50 states and a variety of industries joined. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 53% of eligible voters cast ballots, which was the highest turnout for a US midterm in four decades.

There is no cost for companies to join.
