Thickener from Archroma speeds production of sanitising gels

To give a gel-texture to hand sanitisers, a thickener is typically added to the existing mix of alcohol and additives. The Mowiplus HPC 9600 thickener (pictured) doesn’t need the 12-hour hydration process usually required, according to the company.
Archroma said its team in Brazil had anticipated shortages of thickeners, as there had been during previous outbreaks such as H1N1, and embarked on creating the product.
Gel versions of hand sanitiser are said to be less susceptible to spills than liquid, helping to avoid wastage. Regina Oliveira, head of sales for Latin America, said: “We are actually able to directly make a difference and contribute to the fight, by delivering a product that helps to make a more convenient end-product, and to preserve every drop of precious hand sanitiser.”
