Big names from the outdoors industry are pulling ads from Facebook as part of the Stop Hate for Profit campaign. Last week, the North Face (TNF) was one of the first major companies to join the boycott, and brands such as Patagonia and REI soon followed.

The boycott asks businesses to not advertise on Facebook for the month of July, saying the social media platform has allowed  Facebook has allowed the spread of hateful messages. According to the website stophateforprofit.org, 99% of Facebook’s $70 billion is made through advertising.

Cory Bayers, Patagonia’s head of marketing, said his company will pull all ads on Facebook and Instagram, effective immediately, through at least the end of July, “pending meaningful action from the social media giant”.
