Research suggests increased interest in covid-era running

Worldwide searches in April for "best running shoes" and "running shoes" were up by 106% and 163% respectively, according to research by online retailer sportsshoes.com, and searches for "stretches before running" saw a 300% increase.

Perhaps the numbers are unsurprising, given April’s worldwide closures of gyms due to coronavirus. The results show, according to the company, that “more and more of us are turning to pounding the pavements for our daily exercise”.

The report was looking at data from 40 countries to determine the current most searched-for running shoes.

“In order to work out the top running shoes, we analysed current search data for 65 different shoe models,” the company said in a statement. “We looked at how many monthly searches there were for each shoe model in each of the 40 countries chosen, as well as the number of worldwide searches for each shoe, in order to determine the world’s most popular running shoes.”

Adidas Ultraboost was found to be the number one most searched for shoe with 32 out of 40 countries searching for the model the most and 327,000 monthly searches worldwide. Second place went to Nike — which held six of the top ten spots — with the Nike React (121,000 monthly searches).

The entire top ten list was as follows: Adidas Ultraboost, Nike React, Nike Pegasus (85,000 monthly searches), Asics Gel-Kayano (55,000), Nike Vaporfly (53,000), Nike Joyride (52,000), Nike Zoom Fly (46,000), Asics Gel Nimbus (33,000), Brooks Ghost (32,000) and Nike Pegasus Turbo (24,000).
