Australian company launches technical ski sock
Australian sock company Standard has a sustainable technical ski and snowboarding sock it’s been working on for two years.
The snow socks are manufactured in Spain by Hilaturas Ferre. The “Woods” snow sock uses Recover R3, a soft tri-blend of upcycled cotton, RPET bottles and Tencel botanical cellulose fibre from sustainably-grown trees. The Flock snow sock uses Recover Wool, a yarn made with an upcycled blend of post-industrial wool cutting scraps, recycled PET bottles and nylon.
Standard said it reuses water at a recovery rate of more than 99% for future manufacturing.
This “[sets] our socks apart from other considered sustainable botanical yarns like bamboo, which is in fact, heavily doused in toxic chemicals that then go straight down the drain,” according to the company.
The company said it will continue to roll out its “blend of sustainability and performance” into the brand’s crew and day-to-day sock collections.
