Recycled Meryl yarns result from Nylstar-Invista partnership

Yarn producer Nylstar has added to its Meryl collection by making a new Meryl Recycled range.

Catalonia-based Nylstar has used recycled nylon 6.6 fibres from Invista to make the new yarns, which it said comply with Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification.

The Invista fibres are post-industrial waste from an Invista plant in Kingston, Ontario. The company uses a proprietary process to convert these waste fibres into pellets and it is these pellets that it is supplying to Nylstar for spinning.

“We are the first to commercialise these recycled materials,” said Nylstar chief executive, Alfonso Cirera. He said the company would use the fibres to make fine-denier yarns for the athleisure market.
