Fibre manufacturer Invista recently held an inauguration ceremony for its new Asia Innovation Center at Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP), where the lab will be located.

Specifically, the new 2,500-square-metre complex will be sited at Shanghai’s Innogreen, also known as Shanghai International Chemical New Materials Innovation Center, within SCIP (not far from Invista’s integrated nylon 6,6 facility, also in SCIP).

Following initial investment of around $15 billion, the centre will form the company’s first research and development lab for nylon 6,6 application development in Asia.

Executive vice president of nylon polymer at Invista, Pete Brown, stated: “The markets in China play an increasingly important role in Invista’s global business and the plan to establish the Asia Innovation Center in Shanghai is a clear example of our commitment to further supplying strong local and regional demand for high-quality nylon products, particularly as China is also expected to become the world’s largest nylon consumer.”

Featuring “state-of-the-art” polymer research and development equipment, the main focus of the lab will be to promote Invista’s nylon 6,6 capabilities in China, a press release said, including research and development, production, sales and technical services.

The company’s director of intermediates for Asia, Angela Dou, commented: “We anticipate that the centre will enable us to quickly respond to local customers’ needs and facilitate downstream application upgrades.”
