ADN is a key ingredient in the production of nylon 6,6 fibres and plastics.
It expects to invest in excess of $1 billion in the 400,000-tonne plant. Supported by local authorities, it intends to begin constructing it in 2020, with production slated to begin in 2022.
“With this memorandum of cooperation and a commitment to work toward an investment agreement, we are pleased to be taking the next step toward finalising the investment and its location,” said Jeff Gentry, Invista chairman and CEO.
He went on to describe Shanghai as an “attractive location”, pointing to the benefits of integrating the new facility with Invista’s existing hexamethylenediamine (HMD) polymer plants at SCIP.
Invista already has a nylon 6,6 polymer production facility at SCIP. It currently has an annual capacity of 150,000 tonnes, but work to add an extra 40,000 tonnes will begin this year. It also has a 215,000-tonne HMD plant there.
