Trainer marketplace closes another $100 million

Sneaker marketplace platform GOAT Group has closed a Series E funding round of $100 million, which the company said will accelerate its growth across product categories and geographies.

Goat.com, which was founded in 2015, positions itself between the primary and resale marketplace, authenticating and selling sneakers — often limited-edition, hard-to-find trainers — and other products online.

Including this funding from D1 Capital Partners, the company has raised nearly $300 million from venture capital and strategic investors. With 13 physical locations in the US, Asia and Europe, including distribution and authentication centres, the group said it has 30 million members and 600,000 sellers.

Dan Sundheim, founder of D1 Capital Partners, said Goat.com is “rapidly emerging as one of the best positioned next generation global e-commerce platforms”.
