Sneaker marketplace GOAT expands into apparel, soon to reach China
GOAT, the self-described “global destination for authentic sneakers”, is adding apparel and accessories to its platform. The new additions are currently only available on the site’s apps, but are coming soon to GOAT's website and its WeChat Mini Program in China. GOAT.com is marketplace of new and secondhand high-end sneakers for some 20 million members. The company says it has added more than 50 new apparel and accessory brands to its product catalog with additional expected before the end of the year.
Apparel and accessories brands include contemporary labels such as Acne Studios and Maison Margiela, streetwear labels Off-White and Stussy, and luxury labels such as Gucci and Saint Laurent. In addition to its current resale model, the platform is now working directly with retailers and boutiques around the world to procure supply at retail price.
"We're only in the infant stages of apparel on GOAT," says Daishin Sugano, co-founder and chief product officer of GOAT Group. "We're starting with the primary market, but we have plans for resale expansion. We believe in this immense opportunity and are optimally positioned to work with the best brands to tell their stories from the past, present and future."
GOAT’s model includes guaranteeing the authenticity of products, which is important when consumers are paying high prices for unique purchases. A Travis Scott x Air Jordan 6 Retro 'Olive' sneaker, for example, current sells for $595 new or $800 used.
