Kasturi Cotton: India’s first cotton brand

India’s Union Minister of Textiles and Women & Child Development, Smriti Zubin Irani, has announced the launch of Kasturi Cotton, the nation’s first ever brand and logo (pictured) for Indian cotton.

“India’s premium cotton would now be termed as ‘Kasturi Cotton’ in the world cotton trade and will be famous for its whiteness, brightness, softness, purity, luster, uniqueness and Indianness,” she said. Ms Irani was speaking at a webinar organised by Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, the Cotton Textile Export Promotion Council and the Cotton Corporation of India.

She said that a certification system based on comparable international standards that are verified through an internationally-acceptable institutional system will be established, to be introduced in phases throughout the textile value chain.

Shri Rajkumar, CITI chairman, said the branding, “will help Indian textile manufacturers and exporters to draw better price realisation on their cotton products in the international markets”.
