Inspiration for “fastest football boot” comes from hypercar
Puma said it has designed the “world’s fastest football boot” by teaming up with electric hypercar maker Rimac Automobili.
The lightweight shoe — weighing just 90 grams — has an upper constructed of super-light woven mesh, coated in a thin layer of TPU skin for added durability. The Ultra SL, as the shoe is called, has a Pebax outsole and “extremely lightweight tooling engineered to boost your speed”. Two ‘windows’ on the heel are inspired by the body work of the Rimac C_Two.
Only 412 pairs of the shoe will be launched, in a nod to the 412 km/h top speed of the Rimac C_Two hypercar.
The objective of the shoe, according to Dominique Gathier, head of product line management, teamsport, was to “create the fastest, most extreme football boot possible, to give an insight into how football boots could be engineered in the future”. He said the company took inspiration for the shoe’s design from how hypercars are built, particularly with regards to reducing the boot’s weight.
