Moncler ‘100% carbon neutral’ by 2021

Milan-based luxury outerwear brand Moncler launched its Born to Protect Sustainability Plan, extending its “founding purpose of protection [from the cold]” to both people and planet.

The plan strives to “further” integrate social and environmental responsibility into Moncler’s business model, with a greater focus on what the company describes as its “five strategic drivers”: climate action, circular economy, fair sourcing, enhancing diversity and giving back to local communities.

Notably, Moncler has pledged to achieve 100% carbon neutrality across all of its own sites, worldwide, by 2021.

Regarding circularity, from January 2021 the company will also begin Down Integrity System and Traceability (DIST)-certified recycling of its DIST-certified down (which Moncler began implementing in 2015) via an “innovative mechanical process”, which will require “70% less water” than traditional down recycling processes.

January 2021 is also the deadline for the company’s diversity and inclusion council to come into effect, a body which, it is hoped, will “boost cultural change, internally and externally”.

For Remo Ruffini, chairman and CEO of Moncler: “The world is facing ever more urgent social and environmental challenges. The pandemic is a reminder that we can, we must, always go beyond what we have already achieved if we are to make our future better.”
