'Eco-responsible' viscose from wood pulp

29/10/2020
Lenzing, the Austrian group behind Tencel (a wood-based, cellulosic lyocell fibre), has unveiled EcoVero, marking “a new milestone” along the company’s “sustainability journey”.

Like Tencel, EcoVero viscose fibres are made from wood pulp, which Lenzing purchases from responsibly and sustainably managed forests.

The company states that its new, EU Ecolabel certified EcoVero fibres produce “up to 50% lower emissions and water impact than generic viscose”. EU Ecolabel certification is awarded solely to products and services which have a “significantly lower environmental impact, throughout their lifecycle”.

In a move against counterfeiting, Lenzing stresses that EcoVero fibres can be “robustly identified” in the final product.
