Snowdrifts Iceland day-hike sells out

Iceland outdoor brand 66º North is supporting an event on May 1 that cancer survivor Sirrý Ágústsdóttir has organised.

During her battle with cancer, Ms Ágústsdóttir developed a love of hiking in the mountains of Iceland. She decided to encourage more women to take to the outdoors and began organising events to raise money for two charities, Líf and Kraftur.

A group grew up around these events and called itself the Snowdrifts.

When the Snowdrifts announced a hike up the highest mountain in the country, Hvannadalshnúkur, for 100 women, the places were snapped up in no time and there is, ahead of the event on May 1, a waiting-list.

Many of those taking part are also cancer survivors; others will tackle the hike in memory of a lost loved one.

Specially for the Snowdrifts, 66º North has put together a look, based on its Snæfell and Hornstrandir jackets and its Hornstrandir bib-trousers.

The Hvannadalshnjúkur hike will take between 14 and 16 hours and is one of the longest day-hikes in Europe.
