LVMH and Weturn build ‘complete ecosystem’ for ‘creative circularity’

Paris-based luxury group LVMH has partnered textiles recycling solutions provider Weturn, also headquartered in the French capital, on a new initiative designed to close its textiles loop.

Weturn is geared towards helping major fashion houses prepare for the coming French anti-waste for a circular economy (AGEC) law, which from January 1, 2022, will prohibit the destruction of new and unused textile materials by businesses, a press release said.

Through teaming up with undisclosed LVMH houses, the startup will support the conglomerate in recycling its unsold garments, offcuts, and unused rolls of fabric, particularly those (such as logoed materials) protected by intellectual property.

Thanks to its own recycling chain, Weturn is able to transform these articles into "new quality" yarns and fabrics that are 100% traceable (from collection to reuse) and European-made, the release explained. The startup already provides fashion companies with the means to achieve recycling rates of over 50%, it added.

LVMH’s environment development group director, Hélène Valade, commented: “Weturn offers our houses the opportunity to create a complete ecosystem around creative circularity, which is a source of inspiration for our designers. The circle is complete!”
