Rain renews optimism for Australia’s cotton crop
In its most recent review of the global cotton market, information resource Cotlook said there is strong optimism regarding the 2021-2022 crop in Australia and it has increased its projection for the volume of cotton farmers will produce there.
“Owing to very good rainfall, which has replenished reservoirs and will allow farmers to plant cotton on a greater scale than in recent years, our figure has been increased to one million tonnes,” it said, adding that this would be Australia’s largest cotton crop since the 2017-2018 season.
Its revised global number for 2021-2022 is now slightly over 25.8 million tonnes, representing an increase of 7% from its estimate for the recently concluded 2020-2021 season.
