Cotton Australia elects new chairman

Cotton growers’ representative body Cotton Australia has elected Nigel Burnett, a cotton farmer from Emerald in the Queensland Central Highlands, as its new chairman.

On making the announcement, Cotton Australia described Mr Burnett as a long-term industry innovator and said it was confident he would lead the sector into an era of growth, quality enhancement and environmental efficiency.

After his election, Nigel Burnett said his priorities as chairman would include “rebuilding trust in our industry” by continuing to build an environmental sustainability framework and develop Cotton Australia’s best management practice programme, myBMP.

Chief executive, Adam Kay, said trading partners, retailers and the general public demand quality and “the best environmental outcomes”, but he insisted Australia’s cotton farmers were “up to the challenge”.
