Braskem’s bio-based EVA used ‘at scale’ for underwear

Brazilian polyolefins producer Braskem has partnered US underwear group Gelmart International to produce a bra cup sourced from sustainably grown sugarcane. 

The product is the result of more than three years proprietary development and the companies claim it is the world's first mass-produced plant-based bra.

The line will be is available across 3,300 Walmart retail stores and online.

Yossi Nasser, CEO of Gelmart International, said: “Finding the right partner to provide the high-quality eco-friendly materials at scale was an essential factor in our strategy. Braskem was the natural choice for us as a leading supplier of biopolymers, their deep expertise in Green EVA and their collaborative approach were a perfect fit."

Braskem's Green EVA can be used in apparel, footwear, children's toys and general foams.
