Clothing brand to put Australian cotton into 4m garments

A major children’s clothing brand in Australia, Cotton On Kids, has committed to using domestically grown cotton to produce 4 million garments.

In partnership with industry body Cotton Australia, the clothing brand will promote its use decision to bring Australian grown cotton into its raw materials portfolio by telling the stories of cotton-farming families in Queensland.

The Kiely and Thomson families from Emerald  in Queensland’s Central Highlands region will feature in in-store and online promotional material. The two partners have said they believe this will help consumers connect with the fields where their cotton clothing started out and with the families who work the land to make this possible.

Marina Berber, who heads up customer strategy at Cotton On Kids, said this is an idea that the clothing brand has been dreaming about and planning for some time. “We can’t wait to bring it to our customers,” she added. “We know that this new range featuring cotton grown right here in our backyard is going to be something they love.”

Cotton Australia supply chain consultant Brooke Summers said the clothing brand has a long-term plan and wants yarns and fabrics that are sustainably grown by trusted farmers. “Australian cotton farmers certainly tick those boxes,” she said.
