Duo launch sonic wave-enabled seam sealer

Hong Kong-based performance gear manufacturer Stealth is offering a seam welding process that uses sonic waves and high-frequency processes to ‘weld’ lightweight fabrics.

It claims this results in stronger and lighter seams that are up to half the thickness of traditional stitched seams.

The technology was engineered by outdoor adventurer Richard Strompf and chemical engineer Karl Lu and can be used in clothing, backpacks and tents.

Mr Lu said: "There’s too much outdoor gear today that fails after only a few seasons – we wanted to create performance products that last. Making durable gear that lasts longer is key in our sustainability efforts.”
